Conventional Coil Feed Lines

A conventional line’s versatility can offer distinct advantages. Variable speed Laser loop controls can ensure the straightener keeps running to avoid damaging surface-critical material. Safety and coil retention devices for containing thick material and recipe-driven automated setups are available. The addition of a pull-thru straightener to the feed can further enhance versatility.

Thumbnail image This line is rated for 30'' wide material and up to .312'' thick material.  It has a scissor-lift threading table that seats in the looping pit and allows for a simple and effective "tail out" mode.  It also incorporates a crop shear on the exit side of the servo press feed.
Thumbnail image This line is rated for 40,000 lbs. x 60'' wide material.  The versatility of this line is enhanced by the use of two straighteners.  The large powered straightener handles the bulk of the material while the auxiliary pull-through straightener mounted at the feed is suited for lighter gauge materials.

Space Saving Coil Feed Lines

In coil handling equipment, a synchronized line is a conventional coil feed line, but with one significant difference – no loop. A line that may normally require 45-50 feet of floor space, and the expense of a looping pit, instead requires only about 30 feet, with no pit. A highly sophisticated control package communicates press speed, feed speed, and required straightener speed automatically. The straightener and feed are synchronized to provide material to the press simultaneously, thus eliminating the need for the slack loop.

Thumbnail image This 50,000 Lbs. x 60" wide, three piece synchronized line (feed, straightener and reel) is capable of running up to .250" high strength steel in about 32 feet.  It has a sophisticated servo drive system that communicates all 3 drives together to run the line with virtually no slack loop!  Additionally, the line is equipped with 11 axes of automation, including auto adjusting edge guides and straightener rolls, to improve setup time and repeatability.
Thumbnail image This synchronized line concept employs a feeder/straightener instead of a separate feed and straightener. This reduces the floor space even more so. The line shown is capable of running .394" thick high strength material in only 23 feet.

Paddle Loop

This space saving design combines a feeder/straightener with a powered reel. The slack loop is developed below the spindle, reducing floor space significantly compared to conventional slack loops. We offer numerous optional features to suit specific application requirements, including peelers, hold down arms, or pilot releases.

Thumbnail image This amazingly compact line takes up only 16 feet, yet is rated for 30" wide x 25,000 Lbs. coils! This system is designed for lighter gauge materials needing to be run in a compact setting. By developing the loop below the spindle and incorporating a feeder with a pull-thru straightener, significant floor space is conserved.
Thumbnail image This system is rated for up to .250" thick material. The line includes a Power-Core Series powered feeder/straightener and a 20,000 Lbs. capacity reel and load car. Including the stand-alone peeler/threader/hold down assembly promotes safe and efficient coil threading.

Another space saving design in feeding equipment is our innovative SmartSaver. For many applications, SmartSaver can save as much as 50% of the floor space required by a conventional feed line without sacrificing performance.

SmartSaver comes in two primary designs as shown here. Lines can be designed to handle material up to 72" wide, high strength steel and coil weights up to 60,000 Lb. The list of standard features is long, yet you can also select from several options to tailor the SmartSaver to solve your application’s unique challenges. All of this for a price that is often LESS than a comparable conventional feed line. So why waste valuable floor space? SmartSaver provides maximum performance with minimum space.

Standard Equipment

  • Widths from 12" to 72 (6" increments)
  • Thickness up to .187" (.250" HD model)
  • Coil weights ranging from 6,000 lbs. to 60,000 lbs.

Smart Saver Lt SmartSaver develops the loop below the spindle, saving considerable floor space. By combining this space-saving loop design with a feeder/straightener combo, the total footprint of the feed line is often only 15-18 feet. Pilot release for both feed and straightener rolls is available, making this an ideal design for progressive die applications.
SmartSaver HD The SmartSaverHD builds on many of the strengths of the SmartSaver. The addition of the heavy-duty pull-off roll enhances the versatility of the system by forcing material into a larger slack loop space. The SmartSaverHD is ideal for thicker materials and/or longer feed lengths, making it a great choice for blanking, progressive die, and transfer press applications.

> High Strength Steel Coil Feed Lines

High strength steels require that special considerations be taken when building a coil feed line.

highsteel_thumb This reel-based system for high strength steel demonstrates optimum safety and production. By including top and bottom coil containment arms, safety is assured when the bands are cut on high strength, heavy gauge coils.
Thumbnail image THE BEAST - This massive coil line is rated for 60" wide material x .250" thick (36" x .500") at a hardness of up to 120 KSI. This line feeds massive twin, 2,200 ton tandem transfer presses. The straightener in the base of the cradle has eight-inch diameter straightener rolls and the side plates are 3" thick! The cradle can handle 40,000 lbs. coils and includes many safety and peeling devices to keep operators safe and coil threading efficient. The servo feed also has an additional straightener behind it to add additional straightening capability to the system. The overhead deflector system eliminates the need for a looping pit and keeps the line modular. Truly a massive line for heaviest, high strength material.

Specialized Control Solutions

Loop Optimization

loop_thumb This feature integrates the speed of the feeder and straightener or reel to provide a much smoother loop control. A PLC communicates the average line speed calculated at the feeder and sends this information to the straightener or reel, thus allowing the backend of the line to respond with an ideal payout of slack.  This optimization provides for a less violent slack loop, providing a smooth flow of material to the feeder.

Line Automation
